Far too many of Mozambique's and Zambia's children have lost a parent. We walk with these orphaned and vulnerable children — and the widows and families raising them — through food, hygiene, and consistent, dignifying care.
An estimated one in eight children in Mozambique has lost a parent. Most orphaned children are taken in by extended family members or neighbors — widows and households often already raising children of their own while living below the poverty line.
For these families, the desire to care is rarely the problem. The resources are. Consistent support can be the difference between a child who merely survives and one who is nourished, educated, and given hope for the future.
Without this support, many children face chronic hunger, are unable to remain in school, and may be forced to beg on the streets simply to find enough food to survive.
We provide the resources to meet each child's essential needs — including food, clothing, hygiene and wellness care, school uniforms, school fees, and supplies — offering practical, ongoing support that lightens an otherwise impossible burden for the families raising them.
When needed, we also provide each child with a bed of their own. For many, it is the first bed they've ever slept in, after years of sleeping on a grass mat spread across a cold dirt floor. For these children, receiving a bed is far more than just meeting a need — it's experiencing comfort, dignity, and a place they can truly call their own.
Our care doesn't end after a few months or even a few years. We walk alongside each child from the time we make our commitment, through their graduation from secondary school, and beyond. For those who choose to continue their education, we also provide support for university or vocational training, equipping them with the skills and opportunities needed to build an independent future.
Because of limited funds, we focus on those who are the most vulnerable and in greatest need — generally children who have lost both parents.
By strengthening the households already raising these children, we help keep families together and rooted in their own communities. Rather than separating children from the people who love them, we come alongside caregivers with the support they need to provide a stable, nurturing home — a lasting expression of Christ's love for both the children and the families who care for them.
Every child supported is also a widow encouraged, a household steadied, and a neighborhood shown what the love of Christ looks like in practice.
