What began in Mozambique reached Zambia through relationships close to our hearts. Today we directly support a few orphans we know by name, while praying we can help many more in the years ahead.
To understand the work, it helps to understand the place. Zambia is a peaceful, faith-filled country — full of young potential, and of real barriers to reaching it.
Zambia is a landlocked country in the heart of southern Africa, home to around 21 million people and more than 70 ethnic groups living together in remarkable peace. English is the official language, woven through dozens of local tongues like Bemba, Nyanja, and Tonga. In 1991 the nation was formally declared a Christian country — and faith remains central to everyday life. Its land is rich in copper and natural beauty, from the mighty Zambezi River to the thunder of Victoria Falls.
Yet prosperity is uneven. An economy tied closely to the price of copper leaves many families vulnerable to forces far beyond their control, and a large share of Zambians live below the poverty line — especially in rural areas, where schools, clinics, and clean water can be hard to reach. For young people, the future can hinge on something as fragile as the means to stay in school.
Daily life for most is rural and built around the land. Days start early, drawing water, tending maize and small gardens, cooking over charcoal or firewood, and walking long distances to school, market, or the nearest clinic. Many homes are without reliable electricity or running water, yet life is shaped by strong family ties, generous neighbors, and a faith that is woven into everyday life.
It is also one of the world's youngest nations: roughly half of all Zambians are children, and the median age is under eighteen. It is a country full of energy and faith — eager for education and hungry for the hope of Christ. That is the soil this work is planted in.
