During their recent trip to Mozambique, the Collmorgens encountered a rural church with a single, worn-out Bible. This moment underscored the spiritual hunger in communities with limited access to Scripture. As Mozambique now faces violent civil unrest after contested elections, the need for hope and resilience is more urgent than ever.
In July, during our time in Mozambique, Jason delivered a sermon at a church planted by a dear friend. He shared with the congregation the importance of being unified as one body in Christ and helping to bear one another's burdens, together, as "one shoulder."
This summer while in Mozambique, you may recall us planning a trip to Nampula, a northern province with a heavy Muslim population. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Jason and I were unable to make that trip personally, but shortly after our return to the U.S. we did send a two-man team to the area.
On July 31st, during our last Sunday service in Mozambique, we were attending one of the churches planted years ago by Pastor Abel Faz-Ver, our Mozambican Operations Director. This was also the church he currently leads as pastor. Jason had finished speaking, and they were taking the time to do some more corporate worship when Abel called up a young boy to the podium.
Sunday, June 19th, was a beautiful day in Dondo, Mozambique! We were invited by our good friend, Nelson, (who is also like a son to us) to speak at the church he attends. Nelson is another young man who grew up in the orphanage of the missions base we had directed for a time in 2010.
We Americans are blessed. Truly, we are so blessed! While we may have been distanced from our church families for several months during the Covid-19 lockdowns, most of us have still had access to livestream, recorded services or podcasts, a bible or two in our home...
