A Passion to Help the Hurting

By

In 2010, during our first trip to Mozambique, Jason and I served as Interim Directors of a well-known ministry's missions base in the central part of the country. One of the many facets of life and ministry there was a home for boys who had been orphaned, abandoned, or whose only family could no longer care for them. It was there that we first met Lourenco, one of the boys in the ministry's care. We were blessed to spend some time with him and the other boys while in that role.

When we returned to Mozambique in 2018, we reconnected with Lourenco, who was, by then, a young man living on his own. We discovered that he had been going to nursing school, but the person who was sponsoring him was unable to continue their financial assistance. Wanting to ensure he could finish what he started, we and some of our family members came alongside him to help support his education. After founding Hope of a Nation, our financial partners played an additional role, ensuring that Lourenco could continue his studies.

As the curriculum and internships became more challenging, Lourenco pushed through, determined to learn and overcome so that he could pursue his passion for making a difference in the lives of others.

He recently completed his education, and we could not be prouder of him! Though we aspire for him to work in the public health community, for now he is working on a part-time basis in our medical services program where he is gaining more knowledge, exercising his passion for making a difference, and earning an income for his family.

Our Medical Services Director has shared that Lourenco has been a huge blessing not only to the people he is serving but to him as well.

We thank each and every one of our financial partners who have made Lourenco’s dream come true! God is going to do mighty things through Lourenco, and we know he will make a difference in his community and nation!
